“Can the children of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.” – Matthew 9:15
In this parable Jesus said that the ultimate goal of fasting is to draw near to the Bridegroom – our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Fasting has a bit to do with mourning. When we mourn the loss of a loved one, there is an ache in our hearts and a memory in our mind that longs for the company of the person.
So it is with prayer and fasting. We long for the company of our Lord who is no longer physically with us, having ascended after His resurrection and commissioned the disciples.
Once a month we will continue to meet as a corporate church body and seek the face of our Lord to draw near to Him and He to us. It is a sobering time, yet a refreshing one as well.
After last month’s time of prayer and fasting, several noted that this was one of the best experiences they have had in a prayer meeting. Why not join us?
